New Delhi: Muggers, who are ruling the roost in the national capital, allegedly shot at a 35-year-old woman on Friday when they were trying to flee the spot after mugging her in broad daylight.

The brave woman, who chased the bike-borne men, didn’t budge even after the miscreants shot a warning fire in the air. Scared of being caught, they then shot at the woman and fled the spot. Meanwhile, onlookers chose to remain mute spectators yet one more time while the woman valiantly attempted to fight the muggers.

The police said that the incident took place at Vishram Chowk in North Rohini on Friday evening. The victim has been identified as Priyanka (35), wife of Dr Kapil Goyal and a resident of Avantika area. An employee of a private company, Priyanka had headed out to buy vegetables from Sector 6 (Rohini) after finishing her day at work.

Investigations revealed that Priyanka was on her way to buy vegetables at about 7.30 pm when a young man came from behind and snatched the chain she was wearing. When she chased him, the accused first fired a warning shot. This did not scare the victim and she continued chasing him, but he shot at her again. The assailant then sped away with another man, who was waiting for him.

However, adding woe to her misery, the spectators chose to remain mute and didn’t even extend a hand to help the woman. A police team later rushed to the spot and moved the victim to a hospital. The police said that the entire incident was caught on CCTV installed in the market.
