Top civic official faces BJP's no trust motion
New Delhi: Even though the state BJP leadership remains unconvinced, senior party councillors have decided to go ahead and bring in a no-confidence motion against North Delhi Municipal Corporation commissioner Madhup Vyas. Sources said that the NDMC leadership had failed to get the nod of Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari to bring in a no-confidence motion as they had failed to give a proper reasons for wanting to bring in the motion.
A senior BJP leader in the NDMC said that Mr Vyas’ behaviour had led to both the treasury and Opposition benches in “losing faith in him”. “He is behaving like a dictator and ignoring elected representatives. The way he acted in the House meeting on Monday and blamed the mayor and standing committee chairman for the prevailing corruption in the NDMC was unacceptable. It was a unanimous decision of the party to bring a no-confidence motion against the commissioner at the earliest,” he said.
Sources said that the BJP leadership in the NDMC is trying hard to call the next house meeting at earliest so that the no-confidence motion can be called.
This decision, however, has not gone down well with the BJP state leadership, which questions the logic behind the decision. According to party insiders, neither mayor Preety Agarwal, nor others from top leadership in the NDMC explained reasons for wanting to bring in the motion.
“We have learnt that Mr Tiwari had a word with the mayor, standing committee chairman and leader of house and asked them for specific reasons to bring the no confidence motion. All of them failed to give a specific and strong reason for the decision,” he said.
Sources claimed that the NDMC leadership complained to Mr Tiwari that Mr Vyas was transferring and posting officials without consulting elected representative — a reply that failed to satisfy Mr Tiwari.
On Tuesday afternoon, Delhi BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju held a meeting of the top NDMC functionaries and pulled them up for mismanaging civic affairs.
