Businessman and his accountant shot dead by robbers

Assistant sub inspector Pawan, who was on patrolling duty near the spot, challenged the assailants but they managed to escape.

New Delhi: A businessman and his employee were shot dead and cash Rs 25 lakh was looted in Narela area of the city on Monday, the police said.

The incident was reported around 10.30 am. The trader, Pankaj, 35, and his employee, Harish, 32, were rushed to hospital where they were declared dead by the doctors, said Rishi Pal, DCP (Rohini).

Pramod, who is a wholesaler of foodgrains and other items, along with his three employees, were carrying Rs 80 lakh in cash in a Maruti Eco van. They were on their way to deposit the money in a bank. The cash was in two parts of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 55 lakh in separate bags.

As they reached near near Old Grain Mandi in Narela main road, they were attacked by masked men on motorcycles, said the officer.

The attackers, 2 to 3 in number, were waiting for them on the way and intercepted their van. They fired at the van in which Pankaj and his accountant Harish were killed.

Amit Goel, who was driving the van, received injury on left his arm while the other accountant of the trader, Rakesh, was unharmed. The police said that Pankaj’s usual driver Rajesh was not on duty and the role of an insider is suspected behind the murder and loot.

The policeman chased the robbers on the bike along with a public person but the criminals escaped towards the border with Haryana, said the DCP.

The police has recovered CCTV footage of the nearby area but it has not provided any clues regarding the robbers. Teams have been foremed to identify and arrest them.
