Uttarakhand CM warns China over border aggression

Mr Rawat met the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and industrialists in Nagpur.

Nagpur: The Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Rawat on Tuesday warned China, asking it not to make provocative statements over the border standoff. Reacting to reports that the Chinese Army had transgressed into Chamoli area of Uttarakhand, Mr Rawat said that the Indian Army was capable of handling the situation.

Mr Rawat met the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and industrialists in Nagpur.

Speaking to the media, he said that the situation on the borders was a result of the unsettled border dispute. “There is no clear demarcation of which territories belong to India and China at some places on the border. Normally in these disputed stretches, soldiers do not even carry arms, and it is common for them to move into each other’s territory,” said Mr Rawat.

Reacting to Chinese premier Xi Jingping’s warning that China can defeat any invading army, he reiterated that the Indian Army was capable and well-prepared to meet any external challenge on any frontier.

Asked about his meeting with RSS leadership, Mr Rawat said that being a Swayamsevak, he visited the RSS to draw inspiration.
