Pune: The Maratha Kranti Morcha —founded to seek justice for the Kopardi rape victim – split on Tuesday as women established their own separate wing after failing to get representation in the district and state committees of the morcha. Calling out the lack of women in the district and state coordination committees, women announced the establishment of the Sakal Maratha Mahila Kranti Morcha Maharashtra Rajya Samiti.

Usha Patil, an active member of MKM, in a press conference in Pune on Tuesday, said, “Maratha morchas were led by women. Women/girls made representations to the respective collectors after all 58 morchas were held in Maharashtra in 2016. However, there is not a single woman member in all the district- or state- level committees of the MKM. MKM’s state-level meeting was held in Pune on September 1, to which no woman was invited.

When I came to know about it, I went to attend the meeting.” Patil claimed that she had been an active participant in all activities of the MKM in Pune since the very beginning.

“It’s not fair that all the districts will be having five members and all of them will be male,” she said.
