Police nab eight for ‘obscene’ dance party

Nashik: The Nashik police has arrested eight persons for being a part of a party where seven girls, of whom one was minor, were being made to allegedly dance obscenely. The incident took place in a hotel in Igatpuri on Tuesday night.

The police took action after a complaint was filed by a hawaldar, which led to the registration of cases under relevant section of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Bar Rooms Act, Protection of Dignity of Women Act 2016, Indian Penal Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Mumbai Police Act.

Upon conducting a raid in the hotel, the police seized liquor, a sound system, a vehicle, a pickup van and cash worth Rs 9,86,700. The police said that the girls were allegedly performing ‘an indecent dance’.

The Igatpuri court remanded the eight accused to police custody till October 6 while one accused remains absconding. The police said that the victims have been handed over to their parents and guardians.
