40-year-old Nagpur woman sold, tortured in Saudi Arabia
Nagpur: A middle-aged woman from a minority community in Nagpur was allegedly tricked and sold in Saudi Arabia for Rs 2 lakh. The woman alleged she was detained, tortured and forced to do household work by three persons in the Gulf nation.
According to the police, the woman, aged 40, was lured with the promise of a job in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and later taken to Saudi Arabia and sold. However, the woman succeeded in returning to the city and later approached the police station nearest to her house and narrated her plight.
The complainant, who resides in Sakkardara area in the southern part of the city, said she was approached by two accused namely Akhil Begum and Abdul, of Mumbai between September and December 2016 and promised a job in RBI.
However, she said she was taken to Saudi Arabia and sold to three persons for Rs 2 lakh. Once ‘purchased,’ the three accused detained her, tortured and forced her to do domestic work in Saudi Arabia, she said.
However, the woman also told the police during interrogation that she was not sexually harassed by the Saudi nationals.
Acting on the victim woman’s complaint, the Sakkardara police has booked five accused under various relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and launched a detailed investigation into the case, police sources said.
