Nagpur: The Maharashtra council was adjourned for the day on Wednesday after heated exchanges between ruling and opposition sides. Members of both sides went into the well almost three times. Ruling sides levelled allegations against the opposition for not allowing the house to function on the power of majority. In return, opposition said that the government is running away from the loan waiver debate.

“The business of the day must be suspended and we should start a debate on loan waiver and other issues  about agriculture crisis,” demanded opposition leader of the house, Dhananjay Munde. From the government’s side, parliamentary affairs minister Girish Bapat explained that the government is ready for the debate. “A discussion will be held on the issue. But, opposition must let the house function,” Mr Bapat requested. But, opposition members were strongly opposing it and due to the ruckus, the house got adjourned for the day.

Wednesday was also scheduled for the debate proposed by the treasury benches. Opposition’s anger was used as a strategy to derail the government’s issues. This made the house leader and revenue minister Chandrakant Patil furious. Mr Patil later levelled allegations against opposition. “Opposition parties have more members in the council. They are trying to shut our voices on the basis of majority. We will approach the governor and convey our issues to him,” said Mr Patil.

But the opposition leaders rejected the charges. Peasant and worker’s party leader Jayant Patil refuted the charges. “Raising farmer’s issues is not suppressing their voices but rather empowering them. The government is not sensitive enough about  farmer’s issues,” said Mr Patil.

Looking at the aggressive stance from both the sides, it can be assumed that Thursday will also be stormy in council.
