Pune constable commits suicide

The police is ascertaining the reason behind his extreme act but suspect he ended his life due to personal reasons.

Pune: A 45-year-old Pune police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence. The police is ascertaining the reason behind his extreme act but suspect he ended his life due to personal reasons.

Sanjay Laxman Lambkane was a head constable posted at Dehu Road police station under the jurisdiction of Pune Rural police. He committed suicide at his house in Talegoan Dabhade. The incident came to light on Wednesday afternoon.

M.B. Patil, police inspector, Talegoan, said Lambkane had taken leave from May 1 to May 16 and was supposed to rejoin duty from May 17. Mr Patil said Lambkane had gone to his hometown Shirur Taluka along with his wife and two children for the annual village fair. While Lambkane returned to his house at Talegoan Dabhade on May 14, his family had stayed back in the village.

Mr Patil added, “The family returned to their house today. The house was locked from inside. Nobody opened the door though his wife rang the doorbell many times. Finally she broke the glass of a window of the house found her husband hanging from a ceiling fan. She immediately called the police. We have sent his body for post-mortem. He did not leave any suicide note.”
