5-yr-old girl who was sexually assaulted dies in Bengaluru hospital
Bengaluru: A five-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted last week and also had health problems died at a private hospital in Bengaluru, police said.
The girl who died on Friday night, was undergoing treatment at the hospital since August 17.
"A complaint was received on August 17, based on which we registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and Section 376 IPC (Punishment for rape)," DCP South S D Sharanappa said in Bengaluru.
Two persons including a woman were arrested in connection with the case and were in judicial custody.
Police said according to the complaint, the girl's mother had left the child under the care of a woman she knew after the death of her father.
A man who was having an illicit relationship with the woman care-taker had allegedly "touched her inappropriately."
Police also said the accused woman allegedly did not take care of the girl or provide her food properly, leading to the child developing some "health complications".
The girl's statement had already been recorded, they said.
Police said the exact reason for the death could be ascertained only after obtaining the post-mortem report.
