Kolkata: The Met department on Wednesday forecast heavy rain in West Bengal till Friday morning owing to a cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and an active monsoon trough.

The weatherman forecast widespread rainfall in the state with heavy rain likely in most districts till tomorrow and in the northern districts up to Friday.

A cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and an active monsoon trough passing through Sriniketan and then to the Bay of Bengal are likely to lead to widespread rainfall in the state for the next two days, the Met department said.

Under the influence of moderate to strong southwest monsoon current, strong southwesterly wind with speed between 35 and 45 kmph, with gusts upto 55 kmph and rough to very rough seas are likely towards

Bangladesh coast and the deep sea, it said.As a result fishermen have been advised not to venture towards Bangladesh coast and deep seas till tomorrow.Incessant rain throughout the day affected normal life in the metropolis as waterlogging in some areas and potholes on roads caused traffic snarls.

The city recorded 22 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm from 8.30 am on Wednesday, the Met said.

Port Canning (31 mm) at the edge of the Sunderbans in South 24 Parganas district and Malda (34 mm) in north Bengal were the other places which recorded heavy rainfall during the same period.
