Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly summoned IPS officer Arnab Ghosh, now posted as superintendent of police (Malda), for his questioning in multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. This is the first time any serving IPS officer in the state has been called by the agency in the case.

Sources claimed that a notice was sent to Mr Ghosh on September 29 under Section 160 of Criminal Procedure Code asking him to appear at the CBI office in CGO Complex of Salt Lake this week.

Mr Ghosh was posted as the deputy commissioner of police of the detective department (DD) of the Bidhannagar City Police when a special investigation team (SIT) of the West Bengal Police started its probe in the complaints of cheating by Sudipta Sen’s company.

Mr Ghosh was not available for comments however. Ironically he served in the CBI as the additional SP of its anti corruption branch earlier on central deputation. Sources also revealed that retired IPS officer Pallab Kanti Ghosh, who was also a SIT member, has been also been summoned by the CBI for questioning.

He was posted as the joint commissioner of police (crime) heading the DD at the Kolkata Police and was involved in the chit fund cases’ probe. Mr Ghosh however said he did not receive any notice from the CBI.
