Centre biased in giving out notes, says Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged discrimination in disbursement of cash between the different states in the country and demanded that Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) should release figures as to which state is getting which currency denominations. “There is total discrimination in disbursement of cash between States. These figures need to be released. Totally no planning & biased,” chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
Taking the country’s central bank head on, Ms Banerjee alleged that the RBI had not allocated enough funds to many state governments. “Even RBI has not given many State Govts critically necessary funds despite announcements & promise. Rs500/Rs100 & smaller currency notes not seen in Bengal and many parts of the country. They have become a rare commodity,” the chief minister wrote on her twitter page.
According to a top official in the state secretariat Nabanna, the chief minister has expressed her concern with reports about non availability of currency notes in the banks and atm’s of the country, including Bengal. Resorting to her twitter page , the Trinamul supremo wrote, “The salaried class people are not getting their own money from banks for their livelihood. If those in organised sector are facing these serious problems, you can imagine how grim the situation is in the unorganised sector.”
Ever since the Narendra Modi government’s announcement of demonetisation, Ms Banerjee has been extremely vocal against the decision and demanded a roll back terming it “draconian”.
Ms Banerjee has been working for creating a common platform of parties who have been opposing this move. She had twice been to Delhi and had even led her party’s protest in Lucknow and Patna.
