Congress, Left walkout over farmer deaths
Kolkata: The Congress and Left Front MLAs jointly staged walkout of the House on Thursday after an adjournment motion on the death of potato farmers in the state was rejected by Speaker Biman Banerjee.
They also went out of the Assembly and sat on the road in protest. In the morning, the Congress members moved the adjournment motion during the Question Hour in the House.
They alleged that several potato farmers died in the districts after not getting the right sales price for the products. But the Speaker rejected the motion. Shouting slogans, the Congress MLAs, led by Nepal Mahato, left the House. The Left MLAs, led by Sujan Chakraborty, followed them.
Members of both camps later walked out of the Assembly together and squatted on the road as protest which disrupted traffic movement for a while. However, later, they returned to the House and attended the session.
