Aged couple assaulted for resisting loot

Kolkata: An aged couple was allegedly assaulted for resisting looting aparently by two dacoits who raided the couple’s flat in Baguiati.

The injured couple was admitted to a hospital. The incident took place late on June 30 night. Alok Ranjan Chakrabarty (67) stays at his residence at Nandankanan in Teghoria with his wife Ratna (60) and daughter Moumita.

At around 11.30 pm two miscreants came to their residence and rang the doorbell, according to sources. As Mr Chakraborty opened the door, the duo tried to enter forcibly, sources revealed. The aged couple resisted them. But, they were assaulted by the accused before their escape. Their daughter found her parents lying injured on the floor. Ratna suffered injury on waist.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had come for looting. Moumita lodged the complaint with the Baguiati police station. A case under sections 341, 323, 325 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been initiated. Deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) of the Bidhannagar City Police Amit Javalgi however said that the motive behind the attempt appeared to be a previous grudge.
