BJP leader accuses TMC of unleashing violence

Vijayvargiya hits out at govt over dengue.

Kolkata: Showering lavish praise on former Trinamul Congress MP Mukul Roy senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya on Thursday claimed that Mamata Banerjee could become the chief minister courtesy to Mr Roy’s vast organisational skills. He accused the Trinamul supremo of forcing Mr Roy to quit her party.

In a veiled attack, Mr Vijayvargiya made it clear that the BJP could put up resistance to what he described as atrocities by the Trinamul. He also slammed her government over the outbreak of dengue across the state and rise in death toll. Mr Vijayvargiya was addressing a BJP rally with the party’s national secretary Rahul Sinha at Canning in South 24 Parganas.

Training guns on Ms Banerjee the senior BJP leader alleged, “Your aide was Mukul Roy. It was his organisational charisma which made you the chief minister. But you made such a situation which forced him to quit your party finally. You go on finishing those very persons who support you. Who do you belong to?”

Complaining of violence by the ruling party in the state Mr Vijayvargiya claimed, “We are against violence. We do not like violence. There should be no place of violence in democracy. But if 12 crores of members take up the policy of tit-for-tat, Didi, you tell me would your force be able to survive?”

He tore into the chief minister’s statement on dengue. “1,000 people are dying of dengue in West Bengal. But Ms Banerjee and her government claim that the cause of death is something else. How shameless can she and her government be? If the cause of death is something else, it should be made public too,” Mr Vijayvargiya demanded.

Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee countered his charges. “Dengue is a problem. It should not be politicised. Our government is putting its best to curb the disease and to protect the people by providing treatment,” he said.
