Kolkata: A newborn girl child was found in the bushes by a techie couple in Rajarhat-New Town late Thursday evening, police said.

Anupam Foujdar, an IT professional, and his wife Suparna were returning home in Choumatha with their daughter around 9.30 pm when they heard the newborn’s cry in Majherait. The child was wrapped in a cloth and  lying in the bushes. “I can’t imagine people can be so brutal. The way the baby had been abandoned, anything could have happened to her,” said Ms Foujdar, who not only took the child to the hospital but also breast-fed her.

Locals claimed they had seen a car left the spot a while ago, with one of them telling police about a man getting down of the vehicle on the pretext of attending nature’s call. Police has launched a probe while search for the parents is on.
