Rose Valley investors ransack hotel, two held

The CBI had arrested Trinamul Congress MPs Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Pal for their alleged involvement in the scam.

Kolkata: Aggrieved investors in the Rose Valley cheat fund scam vandalised a hotel belonging to the company in the city on Thursday afternoon. Two persons have been detained in the connection.

About a hundred investors had assembled in front of the Rose Valley-owned hotel in downtown Minto Park area after they were allegedly invited by the hotel authorities for a talk on settlement of payments, a senior officer of the Kolkata police said on Thursday.

The situation turned hostile when the hotel authorities refused to meet the people, who in their anger vandalised the hotel’s cafeteria and reception room, breaking glass panes and furniture.

“The agitators also raised slogans against the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging delay in their probe into the Rose Valley scam,” he said, adding two persons were later detained in connection with the incident. The Rose Valley chit fund scam runs over Rs 17,000 crore and the ED had recently attached Rs 300 crore worth of assets of the Rose Valley group for alleged money laundering.

The CBI had arrested Trinamul Congress MPs Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Pal for their alleged involvement in the scam. Though Mr Bandyopadhyay out on bail, Mr Paul is still in jail in Bhubaneswar. The owner Gautam Kundu is now in a city jail.
