Ferrari car crash: Forensic team collects samples

Meanwhile the condition of Ashna Surana, the injured girl who was sitting next to Shibaji, is stable.

Kolkata: A forensic team which started its probe on Monday into the Ferrari sports car crash at Salap in Howrah has found that the high end two-seater vehicle, being driven by young businessman Shibaji Roy, had skidded around 210 feet after losing control on Pakuria flyover in Domjur. After skidding off the road on the National Highway 6 it rammed into the flyover’s railing before tossing off the flyover, according to them.

The forensic team informed that they would take help of Ferrari technical team as the car had multiple electronic devi-ces. In the morning they went to Domjur police station where the mangled sports car has been kept. While inspecting it the experts found that the car clocked a speed of 130 km per hour which was earlier suspected to be 150 km per hour.

Electronic control units, speedo-meter and revolution per minute box were collected, sources claimed. Later they travelled to the spot and collected samples for examination. A portion of the Kolkata-bound flank of the highway was restricted by the police for vehicular movements so that they can investigate how the car lost its control leading to the accident. The forensic experts calculated the distance with tape to ascertain how far the car went on skidding.

Wasim Raza who led the team said, “Since it is a high-end and costly car, it is controlled by electronics. Most of the modules of the car have been destroyed due to the collison. Those which are left intact, we will be able to know about the electronic data inside it after examining it in the laboratory. We will also talk to Ferrari’s technical team. If anti-lock breaking system is in place, the car should not have skidded off such a long distance.”

Meanwhile the condition of Ashna Surana, the injured girl who was sitting next to Shibaji, is stable. She has been admitted at Calcutta Medical Research Institute.
