West Bengal: Cop, woman killed in accidents

Kolkata: A police officer and an aged woman were killed in two separate road accidents on Monday morning. The deceased cop, Rajesh Das (45) was posted as a sub-inspector at the Sonarpur police station.

At around 7.15 am he was going to join duty by riding his two-wheeler. Suddenly a woman came in front of his two-wheeler while crossing the road at Barendrapara. The SI applied brake to save her but he lost control.

His two-wheeler got skidded as he was flung off his seat. A truck coming from behind ran over him.

The SI was rushed to Subhasgram Hospital from where he was shifted to a private hospital off EM Bypass in Kolkata. Das was declared brought dead there.

The police impounded the offending truck. The accused driver is absconding. Meanwhile, a woman knocked down by a speeding bus in Lake Town.

At around 7 am Usha Das (60) of Adarshapally at Gouranganagar in New Town was crossing VIP Bangur Avenue to go to a house where she worked as a domestic help.
