TMC worker shot dead

However, Murshidabad district Congress spokesperson Jayanta Das claimed that the Congress not involved in the killing.

Berhampore: A Trinamul Congress leader was hacked to death at Sagardighi in Murshidabad. The victim, Qazirul Biswas (45), was the area committee vice president of the party at Balia. He was returning home from the panchayat elections campaign late on Friday night.

Suddenly a gang of armed miscreants attacked him on the way. The accused slashed him with sharp cutting weapons indiscriminately. They also hurled several bombs during escape.

Later, local Trinamul workers found Qazirul lying in a pool of blood on the road. The injured ruling party leader was admitted at Sagardighi Hospital.

As his condition deteriorated he was shifted to Murshidbad Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Satureday morning.

Murshidabad district Trinamul president and Sagardighi MLA Subrata Saha accused the Congress of engaging miscreants to murder Qazirul assuming the party’s defeat in the coming rural polls.

He said that he requested to the police arrest Qazirul’s assailants. However, Murshidabad district Congress spokesperson Jayanta Das claimed that the Congress not involved in the killing.

He alleged that the murder might be the outcome of an internal feud of the Trinamul. On Saturday evening the police arrested one person in connection with the murder.
