Bishnupur: Gang of robbers storm house, loot valuables
Kolkata: A gang of armed dacoits looted valuables and cash, together worth around Rs 4 lakh, at a house in Bishnupur of South 24 Parganas in the early hours of Saturday.
At around 2.30 am, five robbers with their faces covered with black robes stormed the house of Narasingha Bagaria and tied him and his four family members with a long rope before confining them in a room.
They later went on a rampage and looted jewellery including gold necklaces and earrings from the almirah. The stolen valuables included Rs 5,000 in cash and ornaments. Before escaping, the gang members however freed one of the family members who later freed others.
The Bagarias later called up the police. The cops, accompanied by fingerprint experts inspected the house located inside a housing project at Samali.
Preliminary investigation revealed that three of the dacoits had entered the house after breaking the door on the roof, while two others broke the main entrance at the same time. They first dragged three members in a room before taking two others at gun-point there. But the investigators are clueless as to why one particular member of the family was freed before the gang escaped with the booty. A case on robbery charges was initiated at the Bishnupur police station.
