Raj Thackeray endorses Ashutosh Gowariker's directorial Panipat
Mumbai: Just days after some groups raised objection to a particular dialogue in the Arjun Kapoor-starrer Panipat, Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has come out in support of its director Ashutosh Gowariker and recommended the film through a social media post.
Interestingly, the recommendation from Raj comes just hours ahead of its release on Friday.
Praising the film, the MNS chief highlighted the courage of the Marathas in the fight to protect their sovereignty. He said that one needs to go into the history of the battle of Panipat to appreciate the “perspective” be-hind the defeat. Raj said that the film deserved to be viewed by all citizens of the country.
“The Panipat war is etched in our history as a classic manifestation of how the Marathas fought valiantly to preserve our sovereignty. They took the flag right up to Attock city (Pakistan) and yet, fell short of victory. To get the perspective behind this defeat, one needs to go into our history. The film ‘Panipat’ by Ashutosh Gowariker is an audio-visual documentation of this epic war and everybody should definitely watch it,” Raj Thackeray tweeted. He also wrote a note in Marathi to the same effect.
Raj saw the film Panipat as part of a special screening held Wednesday night, and was all praise for it.
Mr Gowariker’s ambitious film Panipat depicts the third battle of Panipat fought in 1761 AD and the events leading up to it.
The film releases on December 6 and stars Kriti Sanon, Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, who plays the role of Ahmed Shah Abdali, the Afghan king who defeated Sardar Senapati Sadashivrao in the decisive battle.
