PM Modi: Mamata Banerjee playing politics by ignoring my calls on Fani
Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday charged Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee with playing politics to satisfy her “ego” by ignoring his two phone calls to her on Cyclone Fani relief operations in West Bengal.
He complained that the West Bengal chief minister did not even allow her government officials to attend a meeting with him for the assessment of damage in the morning.
Mr Modi argued that Ms Banerjee has been silent over India’s success in getting Maulana Masood Azhar designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations to protect her votebank.
The PM also dared her to arrest him for shouting “Jai Shree Ram” slogan which landed three people behind bars recently. Amidst the fifth phase of Lok Sabha election, Mr Modi told a rally at Tamluk in East Midnapore, “Speedbreaker Didi of West Bengal tried in every possible way to play in politics over this cyclone even. In the aftermath of the cyclone, I tried to talk to Mamata Didi over phone. However, Didi has so much ego that she didn’t have a word with me. I kept waiting assuming that she might ring back to me. But she did not. Still I called her for the second time.”
The PM alleged, “I was worried over the plight of the people in West Bengal. That’s why I wanted to talk to Mamata Didi as she is the chief minister here. But Didi did not talk to me then. Can you imagine how much Didi remains worried about her politics? She is not bothered about people of West Bengal. The country has always suffered loss due to the habit of playing politics over the people’s welfare. A brake has been applied on the development of West Bengal just because of such attitude of Didi.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed, “Even this morning, I tried to understand the loss due to cyclone by doing an assessment at a meeting with the administration officials here. I wanted to know what kind of help the Government of India can offer. But this Speedbreaker and egoistic Didi didn’t allow it too.”
