TMC punishes its offenders, but BJP, CPM don't, says Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata: Training guns on the BJP over corruption and nepotism chief minister Mamata Banerjee wondered why BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya was not arrested in a corruption case in Madhya Pradesh.
Mr Vijayvarigya, however, gave himself clean chit. Slamming Ms Banerjee he declared he would bring the corruption in her family to light very soon. Ms Banerjee alleged, “The number of Trinamul Congress workers arrested is higher than that of those from the BJP and CPI(M). We are so transparent that we punish the offenders. But neither BJP nor CPI(M) punished the offenders.”
She claimed, “Was Lakshman Seth ever arrested, or Sushanta Ghosh or even Kailash Vijayvargiya. For corruption in Madhya Pradesh the mayor quit his post. But Mr Viajyavarigya was never arrested.”
Ms Banerjee was addressing a Trinamul rally on Mayo Road to observe Sanhati Divas marking the death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. Later, Mr Vijayvargiya replied to the Trinamul supremo’s claims. He said, “I was the mayor in Madhya Pradesh in 2000. Now its is 2017. The Congress was in power in Madhya Pradesh and at the Centre in between. I can not understand why Ms Banerjee raised it so late. Why did it come to her mind now?”
The senior BJP leader added, “I do not fear Ms Banerjee’s threat. She can conduct a probe by any agency. I will expose the corruption within her family. I have the documents with me.”
Meanwhile at the rally the Trinamul supremo vowed to launch a movement against the Centre’s decision to withdraw the holiday on December 25. She announced that she would protest it.
