BJP a party of thieves and cheats, says CM Mamata Banerjee

The man who controlled the meeting is the accused of Saradha and Narada. He looks as if he were a big leader.

Kolkata: Retaliating to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his blitzkreig on her within a few hours, Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has ridiculed him for attending a rally with whom she called as “kingpin” of the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, Narada sting operation case and Hawala case.

She also branded the BJP as a “party of thieves and cheats” while addressing her Lok Sabha election campaign rally at Moynaguri in Jalpaiguri of North Bengal on Sunday afternoon.

Although the West Bengal chief minister did not name anyone particularly, her allegation assumes significance as BJP leader Mukul Roy was present at Mr Modi’s rally in Cooch Behar on Sunday. Mr Roy was earlier questionned by the Central Bureau of Investigation for his suspected role in Saradha scam. He also stands accused alongwith several Trinamul leaders in Narada case FIR by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.

Lashing out at Mr Modi over his criticism of Trinamul in Saradha and Narada cases, Ms Banerjee alleged, “This Prime Minister is now ex-PM. I have worked with many PMs earlier. But I have never seen a PM like you who talks bad and without any courtesy. He has such a low taste and language. Even today you claimed that the Trinamul is the party of Saradha and Narada. You had repeated the same in 2014 and 2016. You are repeating it also in 2019.”

In an oblique reference to Mr Roy, she complained, “Now I tell you: we demand an answer, explain it. The man who controlled the meeting is the accused of Saradha and Narada. He looks as if he were a big leader. But he is a traitor and he is now the leader of your party. And you are talking of Saradha and Narada with him on your side!
