Calcutta HC rejects bail plea of ex-IPS officer's husband
Kolkata: Former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh’s husband M.A.V. Raju was arrested by the criminal investigation department (CID) after the Calcutta high court on Tuesday rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the case of cheating on the pretext of buying gold from a trader: Chandan Majhi at Daspur in West Midnapore earlier this year.
He has been taken to the criminal investigation department headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan for interrogation.
Mr Raju will be produced at the Ghatal Court on Wednesday. Since February he was on an interim bail.
On Tuesday he visited the high court for anticipatory bail plea. A CID team in plainclothes was present there.
Praying for Mr Raju’s custody the state detective agency’s counsel pleaded that he has already been booked alongwith Ms Ghosh and seven others including some cops in a chargesheet in the case but he could not be examined as he had been on bail.
It also complained of lack of cooperation by him referring to his absence despite 11 summons which were sent him to face questionning. A division bench of Justice Sanjib Banerjee then rejected Mr Raju’s petition.
The CID detained Mr Raju from the high court premises and arrested him later.
