Woman molested, husband assaulted in Gariahat

Kolkata: The police arrested three youths for molesting a middle-aged woman and thrashing her husband in Gariahat on Saturday. The accused were produced before Alipore Court on Sunday, and the court sent them to judicial custody.  

The incident took place when the couple from Entally, who came to pick their 10-year-old son from his tutor’s home at Cornfield Road, got into a heated argument with a group of drunken youths. The youths, including a woman, tried to sit on the stairs of the house, following which a verbal duel broke out between the couple and the youths. They assaulted the woman and thrashed her husband. When the woman’s husband intervened, he was beaten up on the road. She alleged that the youths also tried to drag her husband and no one came to help them.

A verbal duel broke out between the couple and the youths, said a senior officer of the Gariahat police station. The couple later lodged a complaint of molestation and physical assault. The police arrested Krishna Haldar, Jitu Singh, Shankar Singh and Moli Das from the area.
