CID cyber cell to get new experts
Kolkata: The state Cabinet on Monday approved the recruitment of 100 software personnel on contractual basis at the cyber patrol cell of the state CID. “We will recruit 100 software personnel on contractual basis in the state CID,” parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters after the Cabinet meeting. The decision to appoint so many personnel at one go in the cyber cell has been prodded by the chief minister’s order of a crackdown on inflammatory and unsubstantiated posts on the social network sites, mainly Facebook and Twitter.
“In recent times there has been attempts to fan sectarian strife online. The chief minister was particularly worried with the increasing trend of adding communal colours to local fights. The job of these personnel will be monitoring of the social media and cyber patrolling,” a senior official of the home department said. As many as 47 will be recruited as computer analyst, 47 in three different grades in the supervisory-level and six experts in two levels. The salary will be in the slab of Rs 18,000 to Rs 40,000 and the contract will be for a period of one year.
Ms Banerjee has directed the Director-General of Police Surajit Kar Purakayestha to identify the key conspirators who are hiding behind the relatively legal vague shield that the social media offers and to examine the legal provisions under which these people can be charged. The CM in her recent public address has time and again accused the BJP and its sister organisations of distorting her views and opinions and misleading the people by using fake accounts on social media.
