Aizuddin Mollah was picked up by the sleuths on the basis of a tip off from Bhasa area in Bishnupur late on Wednesday night.

Kolkata: The state criminal investigation department (CID), in association with the South 24 Parganas district police arrested the prime accused in the murder of a Trinamul Congress leader at Rasapunj under Bishnupur police station area last month.

Aizuddin Mollah was picked up by the sleuths on the basis of a tip off from Bhasa area in Bishnupur late on Wednesday night. Bike borne youths on May 19 had shot dead the local president of TMC Ismail Mollah.

“Aizuddin was the person who had fired bullets at the victim. He has admitted his crime amidst our prolonged investigation. The murder weapon has also been recovered from his possession,” a senior CID officer said.

According to police sources, a dispute regarding construction of a building project involving nearly Rs 300 crore resulted in the murder. Interestingly, during the course of investigation, the sleuths have learnt that the planning of the murder was made by Aizuddin in association with one of his relatives Khokan Mollah, who is presently in jail. Khokan would communicate with Ismail from the prison from a cellphone, raising questions about prison security. The police had earlier arrested one Mohammad Adil in this connection.
