The victim was gunned down by his business-partner.

Kolkata: A promoter was shot dead by his business-partner in Karaya on Tuesday morning over a property dispute. A furious mob attacked the house of the accused and went on rampage before setting some items on fire. The culprit was arrested by the police from the area later. Fazlur Rahman (40) alias Atiqur, the victim, was a promoter who stayed at Bright Street.

At around 8 am he was waiting outside his house for his son to be dropped at school. Suddenly Sheikh Idrish alias Bhola, another promoter, walked up to him.

The duo got locked into a verbal duel which soon rolled into a fight. Fazlur’s sister and brother-in-law rushed to spot after hearing his screams for help. His sister recalled that Idris took out a revolver and opened fire on Fazlur from point blank range.

The bullet pierced his stomach from the right side, according to preliminary investigation. Profusely bleeding Fazlur slumped on the road. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital where he was however declared brought dead.

The body was sent for post-mortem. Fazlur’s family members said that he and Idrish were business-partners in construction projects in the area.

Sources claimed that Fazlur was supposed to pay an amount as part of their joint venture to Idrish who has been demanding it to him for a long time. Agitated over the murder in broad day light, the local residents gathered in front of the garage of Idrish. They vandalised an illegal construction which is spread on barely 30 sq.ft.

Armed with shovels they demolised it. A police team led by deputy commissioner of police (south east) Kalyan Mukherjee visited the spot followed by officers from the detective department.

A case was initiated on murder charge at the Karaya police station. Additional commissioner of police (V) Vishal Garg informed that Idrish was arrested from Bright Street. Idrish will be produced at the court on Wednesday.
