Goods train derails near Dhanbad, disrupts rail services for 10 hours

The single line train services, however, remained unaffected during the restoration work, he added.

Kolkata: Train services on the grand chord line of Eastern Railway were affected for around 10 hours owing to the derailment of three wagons of a goods train at Mugma station, around 30km from Dhanbad in neighbouring Jharkhand, a senior official said on Monday. The wagons, loaded with coal, derailed around 12.30 am, blocking the down line of the Pradhankhanta Sitarampur section of Eastern Railway’s Asansol Division.

“The restoration work on the line was started on war footing and normal services resumed from 10.40 am,” ER spokesman R.N. Mahapatra said. The single line train services, however, remained unaffected during the restoration work, he added. Nine mail and express trains, including 12302 Dn New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express and 12314 New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express had to run behind schedule due to the derailment.
