Cop killed as convoy collides with truck

Kolkata: A police officer was killed while four others were injured after the police jeep —  which was also the pilot car of Trinamul Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal’s convoy—  they were travelling in, collided head on with a truck at Aushgram in Burdwan East in the wee hours of Tuesday. 

The victim Dhanapati Saha was posted as a sub-inspector (SI) of the state police. The four injured cops were admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. Mr Mondal travels daily from Bolpur to Kolkata to see his wife who has been undergoing treatment at a hospital, according to sources. The SI and four other cops were in the pilot car which escorted Mr Mondal’s convoy to the city on Monday. 

While Mr Mondal stayed in the city, the police jeep had left for Bolpur. On way it came in front of the truck coming from the opposite direction while overtaking a vehicle.
