CBI grills Shatabdi, Ahmed over scams
Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned two Trinamul Congress MPs — Shatabdi Roy and Sultan Ahmed — in two different scams on Monday. This was the first time Ms Roy, the parliamentarian from Birbhum, faced questioning by the CBI in the Saradha chit fund scam. She was the brand ambassador of the Saradha Group and took hefty amounts for promotion from the ponzi scheme firm, the CBI found.
In the afternoon, a CBI team visited Ms Roy's residence in south Kolkata at around 12 pm and grilled her while recording her statement over two hours. According to sources, officers sought to know about her deal with Saradha Group owned by Sudipta Sen. They also searched her residence, sources claimed.
Meanwhile, the CBI questioned Mr Ahmed again in Narada sting operation case.
The Trinamul MP from Uluberia in Howrah was let go after four hours of grilling. This was the second time that he was questioned in the case. Mr Ahmed had been quizzed last week. He is among the dozen Trinamul leaders booked by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in separate cases in the Narada sting operation case.
He has also been summoned by the ED to appear and face questioning this week.
It is not clear if he would appear or not. Trinamul minister and Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee, who was summoned by the ED for questioning in Narada case, also did not appear during the day. Sources revealed that he cited his preoccupation with administrative works for skipping his appearance. In the morning, he said, “I am on my path. I know what to do.”
Asked if he would appear or not, Mr Chatterjee added, “You know the time. Please check it.”
He sent his lawyer to the ED office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake seeking two weeks’ time he could appear. The ED granted time and asked Mr Chatterjee to appear before it on July 25.
It has also summoned Trinamul MLA Iqbal Ahmed, Sultan's brother and Kolkata deputy mayor, for questioning this week.
