CBI raids TMC MLA's hotel in Narada case

The Trinamul MLA was the first accused to have been questionned by the CBI.

Kolkata: The CBI raided Trinamul Congress MLA Iqbal Ahmed’s hotel in central Kolkata on Tuesday in connection with the Narada sting operation case.

Mr Ahmed, who is also the Kolkata deputy mayor, was questionned by the CBI’s anti-corruption branch (ACB) team also during the raid. In 2014, former Narada CEO Mathew Samuel had checked into Hotel Emerald on Marquis Street following his arrival in the city to conduct the sting operation on Trinamul leaders. To verify the images in sting footages, the ACB officers also did a videography of the hotel and the room where Mr Samuel had stayed and conducted the sting operation.

After questioning Mr Ahmed, the CBI examined some hotel documents. The Trinamul MLA was the first accused to have been questionned by the CBI. According to sources, the CBI will send teams to places where Mr Samuel had visited to conduct the sting operation. The central agency completed the questionning and recording of statements of all the accused.
