CBI summons Sougata in Narada sting op case
Kolkata: After questioning Trinamul Congress MP Sultan Ahmed and his brother and Trinamul MLA Iqbal Ahmed, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned another Trinamul MP, Sougata Roy, for questioning on Wednesday in Narada sting operation case.
It has asked him to appear at its anti-corruption branch (ACB) office in Nizam Palace, sources disclosed. Mr Roy, the MP from Dum Dum, was caught accepting cash during the sting operation. He has also been booked by the CBI in its case alongwith several other Trinamul leaders.
It has also asked Narada CEO Mathew Samuel to appear on the same day. This is the second time the CBI summoned him for questioning. Speculation is rife that the ACB officers may cross examine Mr Roy with Mr Samuel. Mr Samuel was earlier summoned also on the day last week Mr Ahmed faced questioning for the first time.
Meanwhile, the CBI has sought for voice samples of Mr Ahmed and his brother to examine it and tally it with their alleged voices during the acceptance of cash in the sting videos after questioning and recording their statements, according to sources.
But they have refused to the CBI’s move, sources revealed adding that the CBI has plans to move the Calcutta high court to seek permission to record their voice if they continued to refuse.
