BJP leader Mukul Roy's car searched; cries foul
Kolkata: A day after Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee demaned search of the cars of BJP ministers and leaders, senior BJP leader Mukul Roy’s car was stopped and searched twice by the police suspecting that he was carrying cash on Sunday when he was coming from the Kolkata Airport. But no cash was found. Mr Roy flew to New Delhi to cast his vote.
He returned to Kolkata within a few hours. When the former Rajya Sabha MP was about to leave the airport in the afternoon, the cops of the Bidhannagar City Police searched his car. Finding nothing, they allowed him to go in his car. Within few minutes another police team stopped Mr Roy’s car on VIP Road at Kaikhali and searched it again.
On both the occasions, the BJP leader did not resist the cops but protested. He was heard angrily telling a police officer: “You are here because of Mamata.”
He later alleged, “Ms Banerjee has given instruction that I have to be harrassed. Already my car was searched once. Still it was stopped midway again.”
Mr Roy claimed, “The cops of the Bidhannagar City Police, West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police feel ashamed of themselves while introducing themselves in family circles. Neither the Kolkata Police nor the state police have the guts to stop the car in which money was ferried. However not a piece of puffed rice was found. The searches were carried out for political harrassment of the BJP leaders.”
