Kolkata: Trinamul Congress MP Sougata Roy skipped his appearance before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Narada sting operation case on Wednesday. He intimated the CBI in an email about his pre-occupation, saying he could not attend the questioning since he was in New Delhi at the moment, according to sources.

The Dum Dum MP was asked on Tuesday to appear at the anti-corruption branch office in Nizam Palace to face questioning. Dr Roy also sought time in his letter, sources revealed. It is not clear if the CBI granted his plea or not.

Dr Roy was booked along with eleven other Trinamul leaders, including ministers, in a case by the CBI in the Narada case, following an order by the Calcutta high court after sting videos of them accepting bribes in the form of cash in return of favours were proved to be original. The CBI had earlier questioned Trinamul MP from Uluberia Sultan Ahmed and his brother Iqbal Ahmed, who is a Trinamul MLA, and Kolkata deputy mayor Sovan Chetterjee.

Barely two days ago, another central agency: Enforcement Directorate had also summoned Mr Chatterjee for questioning in Narada case. But the mayor skipped the summons citing his preoccupation and sought two weeks’ time, which was granted by the ED.
