Kolkata: Pratima Dutta, widow of the slain Trinamul Congress green activist Tapan Dutta was arrested by the police after three cablemen accused her of assaulting them in Howrah recently.

Her arrest came after her bail plea was rejected by the court on Friday. She fell ill during the hearing at the Howrah court after she was produced there on Saturday. Ms Dutta has been admitted to Howrah state general hospital.

In the wee hours of Saturday, she was taken from her residence in Bally following a complaint at Nischinda police station by a cable operator who claimed that she beat three of his employees. Ms Dutta's daughter alleged that her mother's arrest was an attempt to foil the family's effort to get justice for Dutta, who was murdered for protesting against the illegal filling up of a pond at Bally.

Trinamul president at Howrah, Arup Roy said, “I heard such a news in the media. I am not aware of it.”
