Kolkata police arrests one for threat letter to Sourav Ganguly

Kolkata: One person has been arrested by the detective department (DD) of the Kolkata Police for allegedly sending a threat letter to former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly recently. Nirmalya Samanta, the accused, is a resident of Arabinda Nagar in Midnapore of West Midnapore. He is a newspaper vendor in profession in the town of the district.

On Friday morning an anti rowdy section team of the DD caught him during a raid with the help of district police. Nirmalya was brought to Kolkata for interrogation since Sourav earlier lodged a complaint with the Thakurpukur police station. Addressing Sourav’s mother Nirupa Ganguly, Nirmalya, in disguise of one Zed Alam from Midnapore, sent the two-page letter in Bengali on January 5.

He had used the name of an organisation: All India Anti Corruption Committee in West Midnapore to divert attention from him, the police found. Preliminary investigations said the accused had personal enmity with TMC Garbeta MLA Ashish Chakraborty, the organiser of an event of Vidyasagar University on January 19 in Midnapore where Sourav is invited.
