Businessman murdered after tiff over pet'
Kolkata: An aged businessman was hacked to death in Beniapukur early on Saturday. The victim, Mohammed Saber (65), was found dead on Bechulal Road. He was murdered at around 2 am, according to the police. Multiple injuries marks, suspected to be those of a sharp weapon, were found on the body.
Saber was rushed to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was later sent for post mortem. As for the motive, the police has found that Saber, a leather businessman, was involved in an altercation over his neighbour’s pet.
The victim’s family said that he had protested against gambling and liquor dens, which were rampant in the area. The homicide section officers of the detective department inspected the spot. According to them, Saber had stepped out of his home before he was murdered. They have also collected the CCTV footage in the area.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Saber’s assailant had fled after killing him. In another case, the Ekbalpore police arrested a dacoity convict, Mohammed Khurshid (48), for his alleged role in yet another dacoity case in Entally. He was handed over to the Entally police station.
