Udayan feared Akansha may spill truth on parents: Bankura police
Bankura: The Bankura police on Tuesday said that Udayan Das, accused of killing his live-in partner and then entombing her body, was motivated to commit the act in order to cover up the killing of his parents, whom he had similarly buried at their Chhattisgarh home after murdering them several years ago.
The police said his live-in partner Akansha Sharma, a resident of West Bengal who was sharing space with him at his flat in Bhopal, had reportedly learnt about his lie that his parents were living in the United States.
An officer associated with the investigation into the grisly murders said Akansha had found the death certificate and the passports belonging to Udayan’s parents, which led the accused to fear she might disclose the details to the police.
Bankura district’s superintendent of police Sukhendu Heera said Udayan had maintained before Akansha that his parents were in the US, which she had found was a lie. The SP was addressing the media upon the completion of Udayan’s interrogation following his eight-day police remand.
He will be produced before the Bankura court on Wednesday, after which a police team from Raipur will seek his transit remand to interrogate him further.
Mr Heera said Udayan had convinced Akansha that he worked at the United Nations. He had shown her a fake appointment letter from the Unicef, which she showed to her parents while introducing him.
The SP said Udayan will record his statement before the magistrate Wednesday.
