Teachers' training now a must for TET

The state had earlier sought a relaxation till March 31, 2016 when it came to the training part of the teachers for recruitment.

Kolkata: The state education department has decided to make teachers’ training compulsory for the candidates who will appear in the next TET (Teacher’s Eligibility Test). The test recruits teachers in the primary schools in the state.

The notice for the TET examination will be published by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) shortly, where it will be stated clearly that those appearing for the next TET will need to have a teacher’s training and at least 50 percent marks in the higher secondary examinations.

The state had earlier sought a relaxation till March 31, 2016 when it came to the training part of the teachers for recruitment. However, this time the Board and the education department have held meetings and have decided that they should go by the guidelines of the National Council For Teacher Education (NCTE ), which makes training mandatory for sitting in the teacher recruitment examination.

The education department will issue a notification in this regard most likely on Monday, following which the Board will publish the requisite criteria for appearing in the exam.
