Miscreant, freed on bail, found murdered
Kolkata: A notorious miscreant in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas, was found murdered within few days after he walked out of jail, on bail. On Saturday, the body of Asim Bhattacharya, the victim who was allegedly into contract killing, was found lying beside a pond at Thakurpally. He was a resident of Chapaberia.
Coming the across the body at around 11 am the villagers informed the police. The cops found deep injury marks on Asim’s forehead and backhead which suggested that he was hacked to death. The body was sent for post mortem at Bongaon Sub Division Hospital. A case on murder charge was initiated by the police. But no one has been arrested so far.
Asim’s wife Doly said, “While going out on Friday night he promised me he would not indulge in any anti-social activity further. He told me he would return home but he did not.” Known as the strongman for the last 20 years in the area Asim, in his late forties, had four cases of murder against him at Bongaon and Ashoknagar police stations alongwith another another at the Ghola police station in Sodepur.
Asim also had cases of extortion, intimidation and drug smuggling at the three police stations. He was granted bail from the court nearly six days ago. Freed, he started attacking the local residents however.
On Friday night Asim, in drunken state, raided a woman’s home and assaulted her.
He suspected her to have been passing information about him to her son, who was not home then, on the pretext of having a good relation with him. Preliminary investigation revealed that Asim was killed soon after his attack on the woman. Sub-divisional police officer (Bongaon) Anil Roy said that an old rivalry was the motive behind the murder.
