Murshidabad, a hotbed of fake notes; Rs 1crore seized in 9 months
Berhampore: Police on Friday has seized fake currency worth Rs 1 lakh from one Emjadul Seikh alias Amja Seikh from Samsergunj in Murshidabad. From him, the cops seized 439 fake notes of Rs 2ooo denomination and 44 notes of Rs 500 denominations.
More than Rs 1 crore has been seized in the town in the last nine months. Fake curencey smugglers are using borders of neighboring country Bangladesh, and Jharkhand, through Malda district and later enter Murshidabad by taking the river route. The town has become the hot bed for the fake Indian currency rackets. Police sources said that fake currency racket collected Indian fake currencey from Chapai Nawabganj area in Bangladesh, and entered Bhaishnavnagr and Kaliachwak in Malda and they crossed river Ganga aat Fakakka and Dhuliyan and later handed over fake currency to different parts of Jharkhand and Murshidabad.
