Government steps up nutrition drive for women, kids
Kolkata: The state cabinet on Monday approved the introduction of the state nutrition mission for the benefit of adolescents, children and pregnant women. “The aim of this mission is to increase the nutrition level of pregnant and lactating mothers, children below six years and adolescent girls,” state finance and industry minister told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
UNICEF will be joining hands with the state government in the project, collaborating with the union women and child development & social welfare department as well as ICDS, which is the largest integrated welfare programme for women and children of the union government in all the states for. In West Bengal, it focuses on children under the age of three for the reduction of malnutrition.
