Police summons Shami for questioning in domestic violence case

Kolkata police sources said Shami has been summoned today afternoon.

Kolkata: The Kolkata police has summonned Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami for questionning in the case of domestic violence, attempt to murder and rape among charges filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan against him and his family members.

Shami, who returned to the city recently, has been asked to appear at the city police headquarters on Wednesday, where the officers of the public grievance cell will grill him on Wednesday afternoon. On Tuesday, joint commissioner of police (crime) Pravin Kumar Tripathi said that Shami has been called to appear at 2 pm.

According to sources, the investigators has prepared a set of questionnaire for Shami and record his statement about his wife’s allegations which included that he tried to take her life. It is not clear whether Shami would appear to face questionning.

He earlier faced allegations of match-fixing, levelled by Ms Jahan, with the help of a bookie.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India however gave Shami clean chit after conducting a probe.

Incidentally, Shami’s elder brother Hasib Ahmed has been called for questionning on Wednesday as well.

In her complaint last month, Ms Jahan accused Hasib of raping her when she visited her in-laws’ house in Uttar Pradesh last year.

A city police team later visited UP and went to her in-laws’ house.
