Kolkata: A budding doctor apparently committed suicide at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) under mysterious circumstances on Thursday night. Somak Chowdhury, the deceased, was a second year post-graduate trainee. He was doing Masters in surgery.

At around 9 pm Somak fell down from the top of the emergency department’s building. The body was lying in a pool of blood in front of the blood bank. Somak was rushed to the emergency department with fatal injuries only to be declared brought dead. A CCTV footage captured the fall of Somak who was a resident of Baidyabati in Hooghly.

He was staying with his parents at Ramkrishna Apartment. Coming to know of the incident, his parents rushed to the CNMCH. The body was sent for post-mortem.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Somak was talking aloud and angrily to someone over cellphone while smoking before his fall.

The police suspects that he jumped off after losing temper. A suicide note was found in a pocket of his trousers. It has been seized for examination by the police. Scrutinising the note the cops assume that Somak had an affair which may have influenced his drastic step.

His neighbours however said that he was brilliant in studies and he could not kill himself. Initially the police was of the opinion that Somak was in drunken state. But the post-mortem report has ruled out the presence of alcohol in the stomach.
