Iqbal Ahmed to skip next ED grill, cites illness

The ED was intimated about his illness, and that he needed to cure before he could face questioning.

Kolkata: Trinamul Congress MLA Iqbal Ahmed, who has been admitted at Belle Vue Clinic, informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that he would not be able to appear before the central agency on June 21 for questioning in the Narada sting operation case. He was summoned by the ED on June 14 to appear on that date for questioning.

The ED was intimated about his illness, and that he needed to cure before he could face questioning. Mr Ahmed, also the Kolkata deputy mayor, is one of the 12 accused Trinamul leaders booked in separate cases initiated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED. Narada CEO Mathew Samuel, who conducted the sting, had approached Mr Ahmed first after arriving in the city.

Mr was summoned by the CBI and was grilled for around eight hours last week before he was let go. Mr Ahmed however fell ill at home after the CBI asked him to appear for the second time. The central agencies are now planning to summon the other accused leaders for questioning.
