Cab driver held for molestation

Kolkata: Police on Sunday arrested the cab driver who is the prime accused in the molestation of a teenaged girl in a moving car late Saturday night.

Mohammad Saiyam alias Rocky was arrested from his Ismailpara residence based on a tip-off, police sources said, adding that another accused, who too was in the cab is still absconding. Police also seized the vehicle used in the abduction.

Police said the accused driver has been charged under various sections of the IPC, including molestation and abduction, and also under the relevants sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was produced before the Barasat court Monday and sent to police custody for five days.

Police sources said that the girl was abducted when she had gone out to attend the nature’s call. Around 1.30 am, she was allegedly dragged by her hair inside the cab with her head covered by a shawl.

The driver and the other accused then travelled around New Town. She was reportedly dropped near Chinar Park around 4 am. The girl then reportedly called up her father while a police patrolling van also helped her to reach home.

The police, however, found that the app cabbie Rocky knows the 15-year-old since their introduction at a wedding and had called her to come out of home.
